New and challenging

Thank you all for your help with your child's work on multiplication. We are progressing along and will continue to review the tables throughout the year. We are now working on fraction. You will find activities coming home for practice as some students struggle with this concept. I know we all will work hard master this new skill.
We are beginning looking at stories and fables from our culture and others. Be ready when your student asks what your favorite fable or childhood story was! We also will continue working in our centers on our writing and listening skills.
For Social Studies we will be discussing rules and laws in our community and how they affect us. Some of the simple ways to review this while you are out and about is watching for traffic signs and asking your student what they mean and how they protect.
Please remember to check and sign your child's agenda nightly for daily notes.
This music concert was a huge success! Thank you for attending!

On our way

Subjects are moving right along in class and what an amazing group of students!
We have moved into group work with our reading practice. There are five centers that the students rotate through each week. Each group has 3 or 4 students in it. Each lesson begins with an introduction together. This week we are working on compound words. For example, one center will be word building where we practice how to make compound words and use them in a sentence. Be sure you to ask you child about compound words!
Science has been great while we discuss the changes that fall brings. We have talked about hibernation and the students have done an excellent job of researching animals that hibernate and what animals do to prepare. You should see a booklet by the end of this week that your child has made about their findings.
Math has moved along quickly and we are looking at multiplication. Working with your child 10 minutes each night would be greatly appreciated.
There will be a music concert coming soon. Watch for details!

Welcome

I am excited to have your student in my class. This will be there home away from home for the next 9 months and I hope they will feel that way.

We have much to work on as we get to know one another. We will be doing a quick review of adding and subtracting two digit numbers and then moving on to three digit. Also we will begin our third grade sight words and spelling lists. Please be sure to review these at home every night as this will greatly help your child.
For Science we will be talking about the changes that are coming in our atmosphere for fall.

I want to encourage you to please come to me with any questions or concerns about your child. We are a team wanting what is best for your little person. I can be reached at 555-5555 between 11 and noon or you may email my anytim at asmith@usd261.com and I will respond within 24 hours.
